چکیده
Over the last two decades, India’s food system with population surge has been undergoing a transformation increase in demand for high value fruits and vegetables. However, farmers are not benefitted from these transitions as post-harvest losses fairly due to poorly developed management practices. The present study aims estimate nature extent of also analysed determinants major vegetables (gourds) South India. Palakkad district Kerala was chosen it contributes most, state’s vegetable area production. Multi-stage random sampling techniques were adopted selected based on their annual production area. total loss observed bitter gourd at farm level about 12.46 percent (34.53 qtl/ha). At trader level, physiological contributed almost 45 losses. Hence, be 21.88 per cent. Likewise snake gourd, found 9 (26.1 qtl/ha), where highest (4.74 percent) biotic factors like pests diseases prevailing Therefore, estimated 13.89 which included 4.89 level. Regression analyses delineated that under cultivation, unfavourable weather conditions, use packing materials jute sacks wooden baskets Whereas, experience farming affect volume adoption proper handling practices by would help minimizing remarkable extent. Besides, analysis farmers’ perception, brought out fact aware incurred only limited

Post - Harvest Food Losses Estimation - Development of Consistent Methodology
Current world population is expected to reach 10.5 billion by 2050 (UN March, 2013), further adding to global food security concerns. This increase translates into 33% more human mouths to feed, with the greatest demand growth in the poor communities of the world. According to Alexandratos and Bruinsma (2012), food supplies would need to increase by 60% (estimated at 2005 food production levels...
متن کاملHarvest and Post-harvest Operations
Harvest and post-harvest operations constitute principal constraints to rice production, especially in irrigated systems, because of the larger yield that has to be handled. Post-harvest crop losses of up to 35% have been reported and attributed to inefficiency of manual threshing of rice by small-scale farmers. This leads to poor grain quality and rejection of locally produced rice. The Africa...

متن کاملMicroorganisms affecting Post-Harvest Sucrose Losses in Sugarcane
Sucrose losses after cane harvest is one of the most important problems in sugarcane crop particularly for millers and farmers. Loss in sucrose after harvesting causes low sugar recovery in mills. There are a large number of factors associated with low sugar recovery such as varietal type, atmospheric conditions, time lag, etc. Sucrose losses occurring in postharvest sugarcane are generally of ...

The importance of cassava has been realized as a high energy human food, animal feed and as an industrial raw material for sweeteners, ethanol and various other chemicals. Its industrial potential, however, has still not been tapped to any great extent. Broadening of the post-harvest utilization of cassava remains rather difficult due to several factors. The development of costand energy-effect...
